License Requirements

Each applicant for renewal of a plumbing contractor, restricted plumbing contractor, plumber or restricted plumber license must successfully complete a minimum of four hours of continuing education relating to the plumbing trade during the previous calendar year.

Alaska Plumbing Continuing Education – Online

License Requirements

Journeyman Plumbers are required to obtain 16 hours of continuing education within the 24 months immediately preceding renewal, of which at least 8 hours must be comprehensive UPC code or UPC code updates and 8 hours may be industry related. American Plumbing Institute offers a complete 16-hour package toward your Alaska Journeyman Plumbing license renewal that includes all required courses.

Mechanical Administrators are required to obtain 8 hours of UPC and or 8 hours of IMC continuing education depending on their license category every two years based on current state adopted codes or their later revisions. American Plumbing Institute’s 8 hour 2021 UPC Chapters 1-4 and 7-9 Courses will satisfy the continuing education requirements for mechanical administrators with UCIP or RPHH license categories.

License Requirements

Effective July 1, 2021, all journey level and residential specialty renewals will require 24 hours of continuing education consisting of:

A minimum of 12 hours of Uniform Plumbing Code (Code), PLUS

A minimum of 4 hours of Industry-Related Electrical (IRE).

The remaining 8 hours can be in any Code, IRE, or Industry-Related Plumbing (IRP) area.

Plumber trainees

You will be required during a two-year period to complete at least 8 hours of plumbing code and at least 4 hours of electrical trade related classes from the currently adopted Washington state plumbing and electrical codes. The remaining 4 hours may be plumbing or electrical trade related classes.You must complete at least 8 hours of continuing education every year to renew your certificate.

For example:If you take 8 hours of Code one year, the following year you must take a minimum of 4 hours of IRE, and another 4 hours in Code, IRE, or IRP.
